A site can now use a theme from a git repository. smalldocs add org/repo copies the theme into the
folder _extensions/ of the project, and theme: <name> uses it. The same folder can hold a theme for
Quarto, so one repository serves both tools. smalldocs themes lists the themes and where each came
from. See Themes.
smalldocs-tufte is the first such theme. It gives a site the look of Tufte CSS, in a light mode and a dark mode. Its demo shows it.
A page can now put content in the margin, as Quarto does:
reference-location: marginputs each footnote beside the paragraph that cites it.- A div with the class
.column-margin, or a span with the class.aside, goes in the margin. fig-cap-location: marginputs the caption of a figure beside it.- The classes
.column-page,.column-screenand.column-body-outsetmake content wider than the text.
See The margin and wide content.
Other changes:
- A site with a light theme and a dark theme starts in the mode that the browser prefers. The page loads the right theme before it shows anything, so it does not flash the other theme first.
- A theme file named
x.min.csskeeps its name in the site. - A theme can set the size of the text with the variable
--sd-root-font-size. - In a
_quarto.yml,format: <name>-htmlis read ashtml.
